What is the official program name?

The official program name is GST / HST New Housing Rebate.

Who is eligible for the Home Construction Rebate?

The Home Construction Rebate is available to homeowners that either: i) built a new home in the past 2 years, ii) renovated over 90% of their home to the studs in the past 2 years, iii) built a laneway home or garden suite on their property in the past 2 years.

How much can be claimed for the Home Construction Rebate?

The maximum available rebate for the Home Construction Rebate is $16,080.

What documents need to be provided for the application?

You’ll need to provide the construction invoices, as well as the building permit number.

Does the Home Construction Rebate apply to cottages and rental properties?

The Home Construction Rebate is only applicable for principle residences.

The Home Construction Rebate is an Ontario Government initiative that provides relief for homeowners on the HST spent on their new home construction. It is not related to environmental or energy efficiency rebates.

For New Construction Condo Landlords

What is the official program name?

The official program name is GST / HST New Residential Rental Property Rebate.

Who is eligible for the Rental Rebate?

The Rental Rebate is available to individuals and corporations that have purchased a brand new home or condo and are renting it out. In order to apply you must have a 1 year lease in place with a tenant.

How much can be claimed for the Rental Rebate?

The maximum available rebate for the Rental Rebate is $30,000, which is based on the purchase price of the home / condo.

What documents need to be provided for the application?

You’ll need to provide: i) agreement of purchase and sale, ii) closing statement of adjustments, iii) copy of 1 year lease agreement.

The GST / HST New Residential Rental Property Rebate is not applicable for resale condo units, it must be brand new construction.

Is the rebate taxable?
